In 2007-08 Carolina Performing Arts at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill received one of eight APAP/Doris Duke Creative Campus awards for 2007 – 2008 to facilitate a year-long conversation Criminal/Justice: The Death Penalty Examined. This campus-wide exploration of the events and issues that lead to capital punishment in our society used the arts as a catalyst to build community, raise awareness, and engage in dialogue around this issue. After a successful year of conversation and collaborations with faculty, students and staff in departments and centers across campus, the project is continuing, and for 2008-09 will be exploring gender and identity in The Gender Project.
Our website, www.carolinacreativecampus.org, will provide updates, information and resources throughout the year, in conjunction with our new blog site blog.carolinacreativecampus.org, where you can explore and express thoughts, opinions, and perspectives on this project and issue.
The year will feature performances, photography, art exhibits, historical exhibits, films, student activities, lectures and discussions.
